Nike Ad Campaign Reverse Engineered

Original Nike Ad

The image that will be analyzed is an ad from Nike (Image to the right). I found the ad on google images. I have included the link: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/299700550205660318/ also found here http://dubtastic.com/2019/03/07/nike-ad-just-dont-quit/ I took this advertisement and separated all of its distinguishing elements. These elements are what make this ad effective to its viewers.

Design

Alignment

We can see that the alignment is justified. This means that both sides are aligned.

Alignment

We can also see that we have a center alignment in terms that the text is aligned with the image and logo.

Repetition

The repetition is shown with the repeat of the Nike slogan “Just do it” and the logo. Nike uses repetition to help establish that this is an ad from Nike. They also use repetition with colors. They repeat the color orange.

Color

The colors we mainly see are orange and purple. The logo, slogan, and girls shoes are orange. The slogan, background, and her sports bra are purple. The purple is a nice background because it is solid so it keeps the focus on the message and the image of the girl who is working hard.

Typography

As you can see we have used Sans Serif. It can be identified by the fact it does not have any serifs, also it doesn’t have thick to thin lines in the strokes. All of the word are bold. They are contrasted by the slogan “JUST DO IT” being a solid color where as the rest of the text has no fill just an outline. By doing this they are highlighting their slogan within their message . It is very clever.

New Nike Ad

This is the ad I created as a campaign ad to go along with the original Nike ad. (Image to the left)

We can see that the alignment is justified. This means that both sides are aligned. It is the same as the original ad.

The colors we mainly see are orange and purple. The logo, slogan, and girls ribbon are orange. The slogan, background, and her uniform are purple. The purple is a nice background because it is solid so it keeps the focus on the message and the image of the girl who is doing it all.

Typography

As you can see I have used Sans Serif. It can be identified by the fact it does not have any serifs, also it doesn’t have thick to thin lines in the strokes. All of the word are bold. I contrasted the Nike slogan “JUST DO IT” being a solid color where as the rest of the text has no fill just an outline. By doing this i have made it similar to the original ad so that they are cohesive and work together

Campaign Summary

The reason the original ad and the new ad can work together in the same campaign is because they have many similarities. They use similar colors, designs, and the way they are formatted. They also incorporate messages to their audience that also includes the logo and slogan “just do it” that is associated with Nike. They have similar messages and both show women who are working hard in a sport. Nike is affiliated with sports gear so it is appropriate to have the athletes as the models. These are the reason why these ads can work together.
